Hall of Fame is a wonderful song that came out around 2 years ago by my favorite band The Script and “Black-Eyed Peas” singer Will.i.am. It’s about, as The Script has said, “ordinary people doing extraordinary things”.
Overall, this song is about following your dreams, no matter what anyone else says and succeeding. By succeeding, you can make an impact on people around you, and be remembered for it. This song gives recognition to everyday people doing everyday things and how everything they do is amazing and the impact it has on other people.
To me, “Hall of Fame” means just doing amazing things for other people and doing everything you want to do and achieve, and making a mark or impact on other people’s lives and being remembered for that.
Here are the main lines in the song that I love and the meaning behind them:
“Yeah, you can be the greatest. You can be the best”- You can be the best as long you try and use your abilities to the fullest and believe in yourself.
“You can be the King Kong banging on you chest”- You can stand up high, you can be strong, and nothing or no one can bring you down.
“You can beat the world. You can beat the war. You can talk to God, go banging on his door”- Anything is possible when you put your mind to it.
“You can throw your hands up. You can beat the clock (yeah). You can move mountains. You can break rocks”- Don’t give up. It’s never too late to do anything, and you can do anything if you’re willing to put in a lot of effort and hard work.
“You can be a master. Don’t wait for luck”- Make things happen, and don’t wait or wish for it to happen without actually doing everything necessary to achieve whatever it is.
“Dedicate yourself and you gon’ find yourself….”- Work hard and you’ll be in the “hall of fame”
“Standing in the hall of fame (yeah), and the world’s gonna know you’re name (yeah)”- Work hard for dreams and it will show.
“Cause you burn with the brightest flame (yeah), and the world’s gonna know your name (yeah), and you’ll be on the walls of the hall of fame”- I think “brightest flame” refers to someone’s passion and “brightest” means that it’s really strong. This line means that you have the potential to be more than just Hollywood “famous”. Be remembered with other people if you do what you really want and are passionate about it.
“You can go the distance. You can run the mile. You can walk straight through hell with a smile”- There are going to obstacles along the way, but keeping up with it and not giving up and applying yourself will make it easier and worth it (if what you’re doing is truly what you want to do.
“You can be the hero. You can get the gold”- If you work hard, you’ll win and get the “gold”. The “gold” refers to sports medal, and gold being first place, so being on top.
“Breaking all the records they thought never could be broke”- Doing things people never thought you could do, and proving them wrong.
“Yeah do it for your people. Do it for your pride. How are you ever gonna know if you never even try?”- You’ll never know what you’re capable of if you don’t try. Do everything for those who believed in you and share the success.
“Do it for your country. Do it your name. ‘Cause there’s gonna be a day…”- You could one day represent your country, in things like the Olympics and the military, and maybe even win for your country and make them proud.
“Be a champion, be a champion, be a champion, be a champion”- Be the best you can be and succeed.
“On the walls of the hall of fame”- You will make a mark/impact and be remembered.
All of these below refer to to being anything you want to be, no matter what and dedicate yourself to it and do anything to achieve it. These are also qualities that a person should have:
“Be students”- Be willing to learn.
“Be teachers”- Be able to teach others
“Be politicians”- Be able to lead.
“Be preachers” Be able to share your beliefs.
“Be believers”- Be able to believe in yourself and all the possibilities that can come from life.
“Be leaders”- Be a good example and a good leader.
“Be astronauts”- Aim high. To some, professions like astronaut can seem crazy and hard to achieve. But, if that’s really want you want, then do anything to achieve that.
“Be champions”- Try and succeed.
“Be truth seekers”- Find your purpose in life and look for and accept the truth and accept whatever happens.
“Standing in the hall of fame (yeah, yeah, yeah) and the world’s gonna know your name (yeah, yeah, yeah) ’cause you burn with the brightest flame (yeah, yeah, yeah)”- Be willing to work hard to achieve your dream and you will make an influence and be remembered.
